MARADMIN 342/22

Supplemental Guidance for the Exemption to Enlisted Professional Military Education Policy for Marines Serving on Special Duty Assignments

This MARADMIN provides an administrative update to include MOS 8421 (Prior-Service Recruiters) in the list of Special Duty Assignment billets exempt from completing resident Professional Military Education (PME) during their tour and for 365 days after reassignment. This corrects an oversight created when Prior-Service Recruiters were transitioned from MOS 8411 to MOS 8421 in 2019.

Issued: July 7, 2022
1. This MARADMIN provides an administrative update to reference (a) with the creation of the 8421 MOS in reference (b).
2. Reference (a) established which MOSs in Special Duty Assignments (SDA) were granted an exemption to policy which requires resident enlisted PME as a requirement for enlisted promotions. When reference (a) was published, Prior-Service and Non-Prior Service Recruiters both held the 8411 MOS. Reference (b) transitioned Prior-Service Recruiters from the 8411 MOS to the 8421 MOS. The MOS change removed Prior Service Recruiters from the approved exemption to policy in reference (a).
3. Paragraph 3 of MARADMIN 663/16 is hereby updated to include the 8421 MOS among SDA billets exempt from completing resident professional military education courses during their tour and for 365 days after re-assignment from the SDA tour.
4. Release authorized by LtGen David A. Ottignon, Deputy Commandant of Manpower and Reserve Affairs.
