Sergeants Major Assignments to High Visibility Billets
This MARADMIN establishes updated procedures for assigning Sergeants Major to high visibility O-6 level billets, including Marine Expeditionary Units, Officer Candidate School, The Basic School, and recruit training regiments. Eligible Sergeants Major must have at least 36 months time in grade and 18 months time on station, and all assignments require screening by force-level Sergeants Major with final approval by the Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps.

1. This MARADMIN updates and affirms procedures for Sergeants Major (SgtsMaj) assignment to high visibility billets. Additionally, this MARADMIN will be incorporated in the next change of ref (a) and cancels ref (c). 2. Sergeants Major assignments to the below listed high visibility O-6 level billets will receive additional screening and oversight. Billets 11th Marine Exeditionary Unit 13th Marine Exeditionary Unit 15th Marine Exeditionary Unit 22d Marine Exeditionary Unit 24th Marine Exeditionary Unit 26th Marine Exeditionary Unit 31st Marine Exeditionary Unit Officer Candidate School The Basic School Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments Marine Barracks Washington DC Recruit Training Regiment MCRD Parris Island Recruit Training Regiment MCRD San Diego 3. Assignments 3.a. The MMEA Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) will publish billet vacancies as required and compile a list of all eligible candidates to be routed to all major subordinate command (MSC)-SgtsMaj with package submission deadline date. 3.b. SgtsMaj must have at least 36 months time in grade and a minimum of 18 months time on station upon report date of announced billet. 3.c. Enlisted Career Force Control waivers will not be considered. 3.d. All SgtsMaj meeting eligibility requirements for high visibility billets will be considered for assignment to announced billet vacancies. 4. Length of tours 4.a. Length of tours CONUS: SgtsMaj must have or obtain upon assignments, a minimum of 28 months before reaching their mandatory 30 year retirement date. 4.b. Length of tours OCONUS: SgtsMaj must have or obtain upon assignments, a minimum of 28 months of active service to qualify for an OCONUS unaccompanied assignment and must have or obtain the minimum 40 months of active service to qualify for an accompanied assignment before reaching their mandatory 30 year retirement date. 5. Submission and selection information 5.a. SgtsMaj meeting eligibility requirements must submit a package to the MMEA SgtMaj via their force-level SgtMaj prior to submission deadline date. Additionally, eligible SgtsMaj will request consideration or non-consideration on their respective AA form. 5.b. Force-level SgtsMaj will ensure all eligible submissions are correct and fulfill billet requirements before forwarding to the MMEA SgtMaj. 5.c. Packages will only consist of the following items. No additional information will be accepted. 5.c.1. AA Form listing all announced billets in preference order. 5.c.2. Professional Resume. 5.c.3. Career Biography. 5.c.4. Promotion photo taken within last 12 months. 5.d. Packages will be endorsed by both the immediate commander and next HHQ commander within the chain of command. 5.e. The MMEA SgtMaj will provide all eligible and qualified candidate packages to the force-level SgtsMaj, via the MM Division SgtMaj, for screening, processing, and recommendation to the SgtMaj of the Marine Cors (SMMC). 5.f. SMMC reviews force-level SgtsMaj recommendations and makes the final decision on all high visibility billet assignments. 5.g. IAW refs (a) and (b), SgtsMaj who are assigned and refuse orders or who do not gain obligated service to execute orders will submit for retirement with transfer to the FMCR. 6. Force and MSC commanders and their SgtsMaj will ensure all eligible SgtsMaj assigned to your commands are familiar with the contents of this MARADMIN. 7. Release authorized by MajGen R. F.
