Out of Cycle Inclusion and Notification of Implementation Guidance for New Primary Military Occupational Specialty (PMOS) 0315 Scout in the Fiscal Year 2027 MOS Manual
This MARADMIN announces the creation of a new Primary Military Occupational Specialty (PMOS) 0315 Scout, effective October 1, 2026, and provides implementation guidance for MOS conversion and lateral moves. The new MOS supports Infantry Battalion scout platoons and will be added as an out-of-cycle change to the FY 2027 MOS Manual. Qualified 03XX Infantry Marines who have graduated from the Basic Scout Course or hold MOS 0317 Scout Sniper are eligible for immediate PMOS conversion.

1. Purpose. This MARADMIN announces the creation, implementation guidance, and solicitation for qualified Marines for MOS conversion and lateral move (LatMov) into PMOS 0315 Scout and to add the MOS via out-of-cycle change to reference (a), Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 MOS Manual. 2. Background. In accordance with reference (b), to support reference (c), and as directed by reference (d), Deputy Commandant (DC) for Plans, Policies, and Operations (PP&O) submitted an out-of-cycle change to reference (a). This change was thoroughly reviewed by the personnel, organization, and training (POT) pillars of the doctrine, organization, training, materiel, leadership, personnel, facilities, and cost working group. After review, the POT pillar leads unanimously recommended that DC Training and Education (T&E) create PMOS 0315, effective 1 Oct 2026. The changes communicated in paragraphs 3, 4, and 5 of this MARADMIN have been submitted and accepted for inclusion in the draft FY28 MOS Manual and as an out-of-cycle change to the published FY 2027 MOS Manual. 3. Reference (a), FY 2027 MOS Manual (Chapter 3, page 3-25) MOS addition: MOS Title. PMOS 0315, Scout (Sgt to Pvt), DC PP&O. 3.a. Summary. The Scout employs the M4 Service Rifle, the M320 Grenade Launcher, and the M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR). The Scout is a Marine skilled in field craft and advanced communications that conducts ground reconnaissance, surveillance, and battlespace shaping through assured, long-range communications in support of Infantry Battalions, Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalions, and their subordinate elements. Noncommissioned Officers are assigned as scouts, assistant scout team leaders, and scout team leaders. 3.b. Prerequisites. 3.b.1. Must possess a minimum GT score of 95 or EL score of 100 or CL score of 100. 3.b.2. Must meet MOS classification standards as listed in the MOS Manual glossary (pg. xiv) prior to graduating from recruit training. 3.b.3. Must meet initial strength test standards associated with PEF assignments as listed in the MOS Manual glossary (pg. xii) prior to shipping to recruit training. 3.c. Requirements. 3.c.1. Complete the Infantry Common Core Course (M03RG84 or M10RG82). 3.c.2. Complete the Infantry Rifleman Course (M030314 or M100312). 3.c.3. Complete the Ground Reconnaissance Course (M10RAN2). 3.c.4. Marines with a prior Infantry MOS (0311, 0313, 0331, 0341, or 0352) seeking a lateral move (LatMov) are not required to complete requirements 3.c.1 and 3.c.2. 3.d. Duties. For a complete listing of duties and tasks, refer to NAVMC 3500.44_, Infantry Training and Readiness Manual. 3.e. Related Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) Title and Code. Infantry 55-3016. 3.f. Related Military Skill. Rifleman, 0311. 4. Reference (a), FY 2027 MOS Manual (Chapter 3, page 3-39) modification: Add PMOS 0315 to PMOS 0369 Infantry Unit Leader MOS prerequisite (3) - "Have held one of the following MOSs 0311, 0315, 0331, 0341, or 0352." 5. Reference (a), FY 2027 MOS Manual (Chapter 3, page 3-94) modification: Add PMOS 0315 to EMOS 0913 Marine Combat Instructor MOS Title - "MOS 0913, Marine Combat Instructor (GySgt to Cpl) EMOS (0311, 0313, 0315, 0321, 0331, 0341, 0352, 0363, 0369), DC T&E" 6. 0315 PMOS production implementation guidance. 6.a. MOS Conversion. To support accelerated inventory development of the 0315 PMOS non-commissioned officer (NCO) ranks, E5 and below 03XX enlisted Marines (excluding 0321 Reconnaissance Marines) having graduated from the Basic Scout Course (BSC) (course identifier M030J14 or M100J15 and military service school code 0J1), or who possess the additional MOS of 0317 Scout Sniper, are eligible for an immediate PMOS conversion with no additional MOS training requirements. 6.a.1. The 03XX Infantry Occupational Field (OccFld) Manager and 0315 Scout MOS Specialist will coordinate with Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA) Manpower Management Enlisted Assignments (MMEA) Branch and unit Career Counselors to provide a consolidated list of Marines accepted for 0315 PMOS conversion to M&RA Manpower Management Integration Branch (MMIB) for MOS batch change execution no later than 1 November 2026. 6.a.2. The final legacy BSC classes are scheduled to convene on 13 July and 3 September 2026 at School of Infantry (SOI) East, representing the final opportunity for Marines to become eligible for MOS conversion by graduating from the BSC. Upon class graduation, eligible 03xx Marines will be converted to PMOS 0315 Scout. Commands are strongly encouraged to support this initiative by identifying and nominating Marines capable of performing Scout duties and leading through this transition period. To facilitate maximum class attendance without impacting unit travel budgets, DC Training and Education (T&E) will fund student travel for the July and September BSC classes using Training and Education Command (TECOM) Formal School Training Support (FSTS) program travel funds. Commands must nominate Marines for registration and request FSTS travel funding via Marine Corps Training Information Management System (MCTIMS) using normal formal school course nomination channels. 6.b. Non-prior service/initial accession 0315 PMOS production. FY26 entry-level cohort Marines attending the Ground Reconnaissance Course Pilot Program (course identifier M10RAN2) iterations will be eligible for 0315 PMOS awarding upon course completion. Initial accession production of 0315 PMOS Marines will begin in FY27 via normal Training Command (TRNGCMD) sub-classification actions within the UH Infantry program enlisted for (PEF). 6.c. Active component lateral moves (LatMov). Marines interested in LatMov to the 0315 PMOS should contact their Career Counselor. Additional LatMov guidance is contained in reference (e). 7. This message has been coordinated between DC, PP&O; DC, M&RA; DC, CD&I; and DC, T&E. 8. This MARADMIN is applicable to the Marine Corps Total Force. 9. Direct all questions to the MARADMIN POCs. 10.
